The Havana International Book Fair closed its doors

Havana, February 23, 2025.- The 33rd edition of the Havana International Book Fair closed its doors today in a ceremony held in the Nicolás Guillén Hall of the San Carlos de la Cabaña fortress, in the presence of Liudmila Álamo Dueñas, deputy head of the Ideology Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, and Alpidio Alonso Grau, Minister of Culture, among others.

Juan Rodríguez Cabrera, president of the Cuban Institute of the Book, highlighted the event's extensive programme and the attendance of more than 400,000 people in the main venue and 19 sub-venues, the main beneficiaries of this enormous effort, which reaffirms itself as the largest gathering of Cuban culture.

He also thanked South Africa, the Country Guest of Honour, for its contribution in sharing its culture, arts and knowledge. Yvonne Nkwenkwezi Phosa, South Africa's Ambassador to Cuba, expressed her gratitude and pride for the experience, describing the Festival of Letters as exceptional.

Cabrera also cited the fair's visibility in 151 countries, the more than 1,000 titles presented, the 2,500 literary and artistic activities and 250,000 printed copies sold, as well as the record number of 61 participating countries, a sign of solidarity and confidence in this island of resistance.
