The 31st Havana International Book Fair (FILH), to be held from February 9 to 19, 2023, will have as its theme "Inclusive reading", since the contemporary world allows us to enjoy ways of reading that enrich our better understanding of the environment and interaction with multiple communicative supports.
Today, the contents appear in books, magazines, brochures, theatrical, film, and radio adaptations, audiobooks, storytelling, numerous news outlets, and social networks, while promoting countless ways of reading and learning. Reading is no longer just pure literary enjoyment, but deciphering codes and access routes to information and knowledge.
The FILH, being the largest event in the Cuban literary scene, intends to propose a creative space with equal opportunities, a fair where reading is shown in all its forms, media, ways and concepts.
The FILH will address the cultural impact of new reading formats that currently represent an editorial revolution, only comparable to the invention of the printing press. Tribute will be paid to the centenarians of Fina García Marruz and Antonio Núñez Jiménez, and the Republic of Colombia will be the Guest Country of Honor.
As part of the multiple spaces that open during the occasion, the following will take place: the Professional Book Fair, which will develop within its program the National Bookseller Workshop and the Publishers and Translators Meeting; the Cuba Digital Project will bring together various managers of the digital book and other products associated with knowledge; In the same way, the Serial Publications and Digital Media Event, the Meeting of Young Writers of Ibero-America, the Librarianship Scientific Meeting, the Meeting of Poetry Promoters, the Artistic-Literary Program of the Tesoro de Papel Children's Pavilion, and the Science colloquia will be held. Social and Human Health and Environment, as well as the Meeting of Historians.
The most important event of the Cuban publishing sector is the stage for the concurrence of all the arts, as it is the cultural event of the Cuban family.
With the participation of writers, editors, translators, designers, illustrators, distributors, booksellers, librarians and the general public, for ten days the event will promote the exhibition, negotiation, commercialization and promotion of Cuban and foreign literature. Subsequently, the Fair will tour the country as a symbol of the will of the Cuban State so that books and reading continue to be a right of the people.
