Havana in the race for October 10

In the Cuban capital, a race was held in honor of the beginning of the War of Independence in Cuba against Spanish colonialism, on the same date in 1868.

The race was organized by the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder) and started at 9:00 a.m. in the Diez de Octubre municipality and its route included Santa Catalina, Juan Delgado, Acosta, Espadero and Mayía Rodríguez streets.

As is tradition, the event also greeted World Food Day, which is celebrated on October 16 each year, proclaimed in 1979 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Under the auspices of FAO and with the slogan "Leave no one behind", the circuit to be completed was 4 kilometers and 219 meters long.

Carlos Gattorno, director of the National Commission of Races and Walks, explained that all elite runners from Havana and from the Cerro Pelado and Giraldo Córdova Cardín high performance athlete training schools were invited.

Likewise, those who qualified for Marabana 2022, who obtained their places in the Cacahual-Ciudad Deportiva; Carrera por Mandela and Carrera Ideal Olímpico races, were also invited.

Prizes were awarded to the first three places in both sexes, and in the usual categories of the popular races, in addition to the first places of each association of people with disabilities.
