The Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) adopted unanimously and for the fifteenth consecutive time, a resolution against the US blockade on Cuba

The XXXVII Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), which took place on February 17 and 18, in Ethiopia, adopted unanimously and for the fifteenth consecutive time, a resolution that called the US Government to lift the prolonged and unjustifiable economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Cuban people.

For the first time the text express serious concern about the arbitrary inclusion of #Cuba in the unilateral list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, which has further exacerbated the financial prohibitions and restrictions to Cuba emanating from the blockade; therefore, CALLS for the removal of Cuba from that list;

The African Leaders also regrets the measures implemented by the Government of the United States since 9th November 2017, which strengthen the blockade and EXPRESSES DEEP CONCERN over the widening of the extraterritorial nature of the blockade, including the full implementation of Chapter III of the Helms-Burton Act.

African States also acknowledges that the blockade is the main obstacle for Cuba’s implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Cuba.

Cuba is grateful to the African leaders and peoples for their firm solidarity against the longest economic blockade against any country in history.
