Nicosia, February 24, 2023. - On the morning of February 24, His Beatitude Georgios I, Archbishop of New Justiniana and all Cyprus received in the Archbishopric of Nicosia the Ambassador of Cuba, Angel Gustavo Suarez Cordero.
In the friendly meeting they discussed the close relations of the two islands, the good relationship of their historical leaders Archbishop Makarios and Commander Fidel Castro.
The Archbishop updated the Cuban Ambassador on the Cypriot issue, while thanking Cuba for its support on this sensitive issue for his people. He also highlighted the values shared by the peoples of Cyprus and Cuba.
For his part, the Cuban diplomat said he was honored by the pleasant and frank exchange. He updated his beatitude on the effects of the unjust and inhuman blockade suffered by the Cuban people for more than six decades and on religious freedom in Cuba. He expressed gratitude for the expressions of affection and respect between the two peoples with a long history of friendship. During the meeting, the Cuban Ambassador also wished the new Archbishop the best success in his ministry.
Both sides pledged to work together in the future to maintain good relations between the two peoples and continue to support each other (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
