Homage is paid to Commander Fidel Castro Ruz in a great event organized by the Solidarity with Cuba Campaign

The Latin American Conference 2017 was held this Saturday at the London Congress Center, under the theme "Standing up to Trump: Latin America fights back". Organized by the Campaign of Solidarity with Cuba and UK unions, the blockade against Cuba was condemned, as well as President Donald Trump's policy towards Latin America, while a tribute was paid to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

In Latin America 2017, Kevin Courtney, on behalf of the United Kingdom Union of Teachers, made reference to the high level of Cuban educational system despite the situation the country is going through, and called for solidarity with the island after the passage of Hurricane Irma. Courtney also condemned the US blockade against Cuba.

The Panel Democracy in Cuba the 2018 elections and beyond featured interventions by Ambassador Teresita Vicente and academicians Lauren Collins and Antony Kapcia.

During her speech in the plenary session, the Nicaraguan Ambassador Guisell Morales, recalled the figure of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

Former British PM, George Galloway recalled the figure of revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara; demonstrated against the illegal occupation of the Guantanamo Naval Base, and remarked the example of Fidel Castro for Cuba and the world.

In a different panel, the Political Advisor of the Embassy of Cuba, Julio Pujol, made an intervention on ALBA, its importance as a mechanism for the integration of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Cuban Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Teresita Vicente, on her second plenary speech spoke about the internationalism and solidarity of the Cuban people, two of the fundamental principles of the Revolution, highlighting the figure of Commander Fidel Castro as an inspiring example and guide.

The Latin America 2017 Conference concluded with the historic slogan of "Homeland or Death" in a fitting tribute to Fidel Castro on the first anniversary of his death.
