Immense pleasure for the Cuban Embassy to attend the opening of the personal exhibition of the Seychellois painter George Camille.

Victoria, 18 December 2021._ The exhibition 'Drift Apart - Come Together', by the experienced Seychellois painter George Camille, was officially opened by the President of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, at the Kaz Zanana Art Gallery, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism Sylvestre Radegonde; the Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, Rose-Marie Hoareau; the Mayor of Victoria David Andre, who is also the Secretary General of the Seychelles National Institute of Culture, Heritage and Arts; members of the diplomatic corps and friends of the painter.

The exhibition comprises large paintings alongside sequences sizeable modifiedengravings made by the artist, who expressed that they illustrate the current situation in which the Covid-19 pandemic has separated them (referring to Seychelles), while as a people, the desire is to unite.

According to the artist, through his work he wanted to create the feeling of being helpless and powerless in the face of forces beyond our control as humans. He said that most of these artworks grab and freeze considerable swaths of momentum, however, there are also oases of calm, with a series of paintings possessing an almost meditative stillness, through which we receive a sense of quiet strength and, specifically, a harmonious balance between humanity and nature.

The occasion was also an opportunity to celebrate the inclusion of the traditional dance "Moutya" in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Unesco.

It was a pleasure for the Cuban Embassy to be invited and to participate in the inauguration of this exhibition that shows the infinite talent and sensitivity of George Camille.
