Inauguration in Cyprus of a monument dedicated to Fidel and Che.

During an emotional and supportive ceremony in the municipality of Tseri, in the suburbs of Nicosia, with the assistance of hundreds of people and guests from the capital and other parts of Cyprus, a beautiful monument has been dedicated to the Cuban Revolution, and as a homage of the Cypriot people to the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, and to the Heroic Guerrilla Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, whose daughter, Aleida Guevara March, was specially invited.
Before the inauguration of the monument, Dr. Guevara March, was accompanied by the former president of Cyprus Demetris Christofias and leaders of the municipality and of the AKEL Party, by the Cuban ambassador Aramís Fuente Hernández and other personalities, to place floral offerings on the obelisk erected in honor To those who died during the coup d'état and the Turkish invasion of 1974, and to the people who disappeared because of those tragic events that took place against Cyprus and its people. They also paid tribute to the prominent Cypriot poet and communist Theodosis Pierides and the hero and martyr Costas Mishaoulis, a militant of AKEL, both from the village of Tseri.
The monument, made by two young Cypriot artists, was inaugurated during a cultural and political act in one of the most crowded areas of the municipality, in front of the Local Club of the Popular Movement of the Left "Anagennisis". The importance of this solidarity initiative was highlighted in the speeches by the former President Demetris Christofias and also by the AKEL district secretary Nicosia-Kyrenia, Christos Christofides. Dr. Aleida Guevara thanked for the beautiful and generous action that is a symbol of mutual admiration and the strong ties of friendship and solidarity that unite the peoples of Cuba and Cyprus.
Together with Christofias, Aleida unveiled the monument and later exchanged appreciations and experiences with many people of all ages, as well as local militants and volunteers from the Party and Youth Organization. The activity was closed with a cultural program that included songs dedicated to the Cuban Revolution and Che.
