On the evening of 24 May, the former Paphos Power Plant, now converted into a cultural and art square, was the venue for the opening of an extraordinary exhibition of photographs of Cuba, captured through the lens of renowned photographer Andreas Constantinous. The event, which attracted hundreds of people living in Paphos, highlighted the beauty and diversity of the Caribbean island, and sparked great interest in travelling to Cuba.
The exhibition was attended by prominent local authorities, including the Mayor of Paphos, Fedon Fedonos, the Environment Commissioner of Cyprus, Antonia Theodosiou; the Secretary General of the Communist Party AKEL, Stefanous Stefanou and the Secretary of International Relations of the Green Party, Alexia Sakadakis. They showed their support and enthusiasm for this cultural exchange, strengthening the bonds of friendship between Cyprus and Cuba.
The Ambassador of Cuba in Cyprus, Angel Gustavo Suarez Cordero, welcomed the attendees with an emotional speech thanking everyone for their presence and highlighting the opportunity to enjoy together this visual experience through the streets of Cuba.
The Cuban diplomat highlighted how the images on display tell the story of everyday life in Cuba, its culture, colours, Caribbean spirit and nature, despite the economic challenges caused by the prolonged system of sanctions that affects every aspect of Cubans' daily lives.
The Ambassador took the opportunity to thank Mayor Fedonos and the President of the Home of Arts and Literature, Stelios Sophokli, for their willingness to promote Cuban culture and for their excellent collaboration in the organisation of this event.
The inauguration of this photographic exhibition marks a milestone in the promotion of Cuban culture in Cyprus, strengthening the bonds of friendship and collaboration between the two countries (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
