Dublin, November 19, 2020, Independent MP Thomas Pringle paid a visit to the Cuban ambassador to Ireland, Hugo René Ramos Milanés. Until the previous legislature, Deputy Pringle served as coordinator of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba, a position from which he has been a dynamic promoter of the expansion of ties between the two countries.
Although the new friendship group is about to be established, Deputy Pringle has continued to carry out a dynamic work, standing out for his personal support and promotion of the campaign in favor of the awarding of the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize to the Henry Reeve Cuban medical brigades, in recognition of the work carried out in 39 countries to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, together with the assistance provided by 71 brigades to dozens of nations on all continents, throughout the 15 years of existence of this contingent, specialized to act in exceptional conditions. Deputy Pringle is also an active participant in the international campaign to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government on Cuba, which in 60 years of validity has caused economic damage of more than 144 billion dollars.
During the meeting, both parties exchanged impressions on the behavior of the Covid-19 pandemic in different latitudes, its severe economic and social impact, as well as the urgent need to continue strengthening solidarity and international cooperation in order to eradicate it. They also examined alternatives for bilateral cooperation in various fields.
In Ireland to date 38 deputies and 6 senators have confirmed their support for the campaign for the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to the Henry Reeve Brigade. Along with them several Irish academics.
