Informatics Fair 2024, fast progress towards digitization in Cuba.

The convergence today of state-owned, private and foreign companies at the 19th Informática 2024 Fair being held in this capital, constitutes a fundamental space to move faster towards the digitalization of Cuban society.

This was reaffirmed by the executive director of the exhibition event, Ariadne Plascencia, who, in an exclusive conversation with Prensa Latina, stressed the importance of uniting in this event all the economic actors related to ICTs on the island, "not only as exhibitors, but also as sponsors".

"This is the first occasion in which all sectors of the economy participate and this puts us in a scenario of great diversity in terms of the products offered and at the same time increases competition among companies, not in an antagonistic way but focused on integrating all the efforts of human capital trained in our country in the IT sector to advance in the digitization of Cuban society as quickly as possible," he said.

In this regard, speaking to the Latin American agency, Dany Valiente, general director of the software applications company Desoft, announced that this state entity is going through a transformation process in which five of the provincial representations assumed as MSMEs (small or medium-sized enterprises) and so will other territories of the country.

"We come to this fair with a different organizational dynamism and we are jointly exhibiting star products such as the Cuban localization system Zoom LC, the Febexpo platform and a digital marketing service that will work together with the media entity Ideas Multimedios and Disset Consultors," he said.

In this regard, Plascencia stressed that the Fair is also a way to launch new products and highlighted the signing in the first days of collaboration agreements between Cuban state-owned and private enterprises and foreign companies.

He highlighted the opportunities offered by the Scientific and Technological Parks (Havana and Matanzas) of the Caribbean island, which function as incubators of new ideas to generate technology-based companies.

In a forward-looking manner, Plascencia affirmed that the Fair, which closes its doors this Friday, has been a satisfactory event, because it managed to return to the on-site modality after six years, on a par with the virtual one.

He announced that the next exhibition of this kind should take place in Cuba in 2026, in a different context related to Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), since next April the Digital Agenda of Cuba should be approved.

"This agenda will contain the projects that drive software and technologies in the Antillean nation towards which all the efforts of the sector in the country and the organizations responsible for these projects and processes responsible for our digitization must concur".

With the presence of some 16 nations, the XIX International Convention and Fair Informática 2024 will present the work in Cuba of the use and capabilities provided by the Information and Communication Technologies, in the transition to a digital society with the necessary learning of citizens to take advantage of its benefits.
