Dominica. September 14, 2022. The "Association of Cuban Residents in Dominica José Martí " was established yesterday afternoon, September 13, 2022, in the city of Portsmouth, second in importance in the country. The constitution meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Cuba Ulises Arranz Fernández, the Consul Miriam Martín Posada and 14 Cubans residing in that locality.
In the first part of the meeting, the Ambassador offered information on different current issues of the Cuban reality and on the importance of creating an association that brings together Cubans residing in Dominica, with the aim of maintaining a closer link with the Embassy, with Cuba and with the authorities of the country where they reside. He also referred to the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the US government and its effects on the people of Cuba, as well as the difficulties it creates for Cubans residing abroad in being able to help their families. The Consul, for her part, offered various consular information of interest to those present.
After the information provided, several of the participants intervened and expressed their agreement with the creation of the association, which they said would not only allow them a closer link with the Embassy and with Cuba but also it help to face problems the problems that they present in their life dialy in this country. They also expressed the recognition that the blockade is the root cause of Cuba's economic problems and that it must cease.
During the meeting, the Cuban resident in Dominica, Surama Rodríguez Licea, was elected as representative of the group in Portsmouth of the "Association of Cuban Residents in Dominica José Martí ", and it was agreed to work on incorporating Cubans residing in other locations in the country. The creation of this Association will be announced shortly to the Dominica authorities both in the town of Portsmouth and in the country.
