Italian patient diagnosed with Covid-19 passed away and Minsap reports three new cases in Cuba

Havana, March 18, 2020.- At dawn on Wednesday, the 61-year-old Italian national passed away, who was admitted to the intensive care room of the Institute of Tropical Medicine "Pedro Kouri", in a state of critical.

Despite the efforts made by the intensive care team that was directly attending to him, as well as by the group of experts from the Ministry of Public Health that gave him permanent follow-up, the developed complications of his illness caused his death. We deeply regret what happened and we convey to your family and friends our deepest condolences.

On the other hand, in the evening hours of yesterday, March 17, three new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed by the molecular biology laboratory of the Provincial Center of Hygiene and Epidemiology of Villa Clara, for a cumulative of 10 in the country.

The first case is a 25-year-old Cuban citizen, resident in the Santa Clara municipality, Villa Clara province. He arrived in the country on March 8 of this year from Madrid, Spain. He began with symptoms on the 14th and went to his Family Medical Office the next day, being referred and admitted to the Manuel "Piti" Fajardo Hospital in the city of Santa Clara. It remains isolated in this center with satisfactory evolution so far. In the focus control performed, five contacts were detected, all isolated and asymptomatic.

The second case is the 67-year-old Cuban citizen, resident in the Santa Clara municipality, Villa Clara province. She arrived in the country on March 11 of this year, from New Jersey, United States of America. She started with symptoms on the 12th last day, going to her Family Medical Office on the 16th. She was diagnosed as a suspect and referred and admitted to the Manuel "Piti" Fajardo Hospital in that province. In the focus control carried out, five contacts were detected, all isolated and asymptomatic. It remains isolated with satisfactory evolution so far.

The third case corresponds to the 77-year-old American citizen, who arrived in the country on March 8 of this year from California, United States of America. He started with symptoms, being identified by the carrier and the guide of the tourist group with respiratory symptoms while they remained in Trinidad, Sancti Spíritus province. He was transferred to the international clinic in that city in the early hours of March 15, identifying him as a suspect, and being forwarded and admitted to the Isolation Center of the Villa Clara province. In the control performed, 10 contacts were detected, all isolated and asymptomatic. He continues with satisfactory evolution so far.
