Communication addressed to the U.S. government
Tokyo, October 31, 2025
On October 29, the 80th United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted the resolution "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba," with 165 of the 193 member states voting in favor. Seven countries, including the United States and Israel, voted against. Twelve countries, such as Albania, Costa Rica, Romania, and Poland, abstained, and eight were absent. This is the 33rd consecutive resolution since 1992. This resolution demonstrates that the US government has long ignored the voices of the international community and has continued to attack Cuba. Furthermore, the Trump administration has recently exerted extraordinary pressure on countries around the world not to support the lifting of the US economic blockade against Cuba, as if it wanted to further intensify its attacks against the island.
Despite this, an overwhelming global majority voted in favor of the resolution at the UN General Assembly. This shows that the international community clearly understands that the US attack on Cuba, which has lasted for more than 60 years, is unjustified, violates all international law, is an unacceptable act from a humanitarian perspective, and must cease immediately. The international community also expresses its outrage at the US attack on Cuba, which has destroyed the lives of the Cuban people and continues to threaten their very existence. It is now evident to all that the barbaric actions of the US government are unforgivable, disrupt global politics and economics, divide the world, undermine the path to peace that the international community has built, and could destroy our future society.
The Trump administration of the United States must immediately cease its actions of repression against countries around the world through violence, intimidation, and sanctions, backed by its powerful military and economic might, like that of an absolute monarch in feudal times, and instead sit down at the table of international cooperation and sincerely listen to the voices of the international community. Violence and intimidation solve nothing. They are merely the arrogance of a great power. They will not only isolate the United States but also create chaos and conflict throughout the world, ultimately leading to a war that will endanger the very survival of humanity. It is evident that the world cannot survive without cooperation and solidarity, and that a future society cannot exist without them. Needless to say, the cessation of the U.S. government's attacks against Cuba would be an essential first step toward global cooperation and solidarity.
The Japan-Cuba Friendship Association strongly urges the U.S. government to fulfill its responsibilities as a member of the international community by carefully listening to the voices of the international community, immediately admitting the historical mistakes and criminal acts it has continued to commit, and immediately ceasing its attacks against Cuba.
President of the Japan-Cuba Friendship Association,
Yasunori Urano
