Join Cuba's "Call for Peace and Sovereignty"

London, 10 February 2026. Support for Cuba's sovereignty and rejection of US interference continue to gain momentum in the United Kingdom. More than 100 parliamentarians, trade union leaders, academics and cultural figures have joined the "Urgent Appeal for Peace and Sovereignty" promoted by the Campaign for Solidarity with Cuba (CSC), bringing the total number of signatures in defence of international law to more than 4,000.

The initiative comes amid heightened tensions following US military actions against Venezuela and explicit threats made by senior Washington officials against Cuba. The text of the declaration warns that the region faces a "growing danger" and denounces decades of US hostility — including the criminal economic blockade — which have caused immense damage to the Cuban people.

Among the signatories of the appeal are prominent figures in British politics, including former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn and a broad parliamentary representation comprising MPs and Lords.

The British labour movement has closed ranks with the island, with the official backing of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) through its General Secretary, Paul Nowak. He is joined by 25 general secretaries from the country's most influential trade unions, reaffirming the historic commitment of British workers to Cuba's self-determination, including: Andrea Egan (UNISON), Sharon Graham (Unite the Union), Dave Ward (CWU), Mick Whelan (ASLEF), Daniel Kebede (NEU), Eddie Dempsey (RMT) and Matt Wrack (FBU).

The document also has the support of figures from the worlds of culture and international activism, such as economist Yanis Varoufakis, actress Maxine Peake, filmmaker Michael Chambers, and Lindsey German, convener of the Stop the War coalition.

The appeal calls on the British government and the European Union to "publicly reaffirm their commitment to international law" and to unequivocally oppose any threat or use of military force against Cuba, stressing that the island has the inalienable right to determine its own political, economic and social system without external interference.

We invite all friendly organisations, solidarity movements and defenders of justice worldwide to support this initiative. Defending Cuba today means defending the validity of international law and the sovereignty of all peoples.
