2024 Australia-Cuba Friendship Society (ACFS) National Consultation Joint Statement
Gathering this weekend on the stolen lands of the Gadigal people, the 2024 Australia-Cuba Friendship Society (ACFS) National Consultation affirms in the strongest possible terms the following…
Our unwavering commitment to the Cuban Revolution and the Cuban people’s struggle to exert their national sovereignty within the strangulating context of imperialist intervention led by the United States empire and its allies.
Acknowledging the difficulties being felt by the Cuban people today, we commit to intensifying the struggle to end the United States blockade, including through support for further political intervention by Australian members of parliament, concerted social media campaigning, and increased and coordinated demonstrations at United States and other relevant embassies, consulates and spaces.
We commit to supporting our national project to provide $30,000 worth of donations to the Agro Vivo social project in Matanzas. Alongside the From Australia to Cuba with Love campaign, the ACFS will work collectively and productively to be as effective as we can be in our internationalism.
As a result of the travesty unfolding in Palestine, members of the Australian community are more aware than ever of the devastating impacts of violent imperialism on the oppressed nations of the world. It is no coincidence that Israel stands all but alone with the United States in supporting the blockade on Revolutionary Cuba at the United Nations. Cuba, as a long-term supporter of Palestinian rights, including statehood, is forever linked to this struggle. Internationalist solidarity is never mutually exclusive. The ACFS will continue to work with those who fight to end imperialism in all nations of the world to combine and channel our resources and activities.
We acknowledge the invaluable support provided by ICAP, the Cuban Ambassador, Tanieris Diéguez, the Cuban Embassy, and supporters of the Southern Cross Brigade. We express our heartfelt gratitude for these institutions' unwavering commitment to fostering international solidarity and cooperation, committing to working more closely with the Embassy in the distribution of information to the community.
We note the deepening ties between the Cuban Revolution and the First Nations struggle. Their efforts have strengthened the bonds of friendship and understanding between Cuba and Australia, transcending borders to promote socialism, internationalism and humanism.
Finally, we honour and remember those esteemed branch members who have recently passed away:
- Joan Coxsedge
- Claudio Villegas
- Hugo Nardini
- Neville Williams
Their dedication and contributions to our cause will forever be cherished and remembered.
No more interference. No more coercion. No more sanctions. End the blockade and let Cuba live!
Adopted on Sunday, 7 April 2024.
