Dublin, January 24, 2023. The leader of the Irish Labor Party, deputy Ivana Bacik, was received today at the Cuban Embassy in Dublin, by the ambassador of that country, Bernardo Guanche Hernández. Both exchanged about the possibilities of strengthening relations in different areas, taking into account the excellent state of bilateral relations between Cuba and Ireland.
The Cuban diplomat explained to Deputy Bacic the serious consequences of the intensified US economic, commercial and financial blockade against her country, the impact of the pandemic and the consequences of the passage of Hurricane "Ian" through western Cuba.
Likewise, he denounced the campaigns of falsehoods against Cuba that include, for example, misinformation about religious practice and the alleged lack of freedoms in this regard. In this context, he recalled the transcendental visit of Pope John Paul II, whose 25th anniversary is celebrated these days, which paved the way for those of Pope Benedict XVI, in 2012, and then that of Pope Francis, in 2015, having Cuba the privilege of having been visited by the last three Supreme Pontiffs.
Deputy Bacik expressed her solidarity with the Cuban people and her willingness to strengthen ties with the Island, in particular, with the National Assembly of Cuba.
The meeting took place in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.
