Khentii, Mongolia. September 12, 2017. Invited by the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (PPRM), the Cuban Ambassador to Mongolia, Raúl Delgado Concepción participated in the ancestral ceremony of marking horses in the Mongolian countryside. Accompanied by the Secretary General of the PPRM, Mr. Nambaryn Enkhbayar, and the former presidential candidate and Member of Parliament (Great Hural State of Mongolia) Mr. Sainkhuugiin Ganbaatar, the Ambassador was able to learn about the history, customs and best culinary traditions of Mongolian nomads.
In a country with about 70 million head of livestock and a territorial extension of 1,564,1161 km ², cattle raisingis in Mongolia one of its most important economic activities. The ceremony of marking horses by their breeders is one of the oldest ceremonies held in September and of great importance to the nomadic peasants of the Mongolian steppes. Accompanied by the more traditional food dishes, the ceremony brings together the families who come to mark the foals born during the spring and that will be differentiated by these marks by their owners in the extensive meadows that occupy the geography of this country.
The ceremony was attended by PPRM members of the Province and other accredited Ambassadors in Ulaanbaatar. The famous Higher Horse Trainer, Mr. E. Erdenechuluun, owner of the winning horse of 6 horse racing tournaments, presided over the ceremony, which also featured mounts of horses belonging to different ethnic groups and provinces of Mongolia.
