López Obrador ratifies movement against blockade of Cuba

The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, ratified today that he will lead an international movement against the blockade of Cuba, which he described as an offense to humanity.

In his press conference at the National Palace, the President said that the US blockade of Cuba is inhumane, a matter that has to do with an ideological burden that nullifies the right of the peoples to act with independence and freedom.

What is the fault of our Cuban brothers and sisters that a power does not like the fact that they decide to act in a sovereign manner", the president asked and condemned the electoral use of legislators of Cuban origin who use these actions against their people to get into high political positions or obtain economic benefits.

López Obrador described that with the incorporation into the list of terrorist countries, promoted during Donald Trump's administration and maintained by Joe Biden's, they cannot get food or medicines.

He said that Cubans living in the United States are not allowed to send support. When they put them on a list of terrorist countries, he explained, it means that institutions or embassies cannot even open a bank account because they are on the list of supposedly terrorist countries. It is an offense to the Statue of Liberty, it is an offense to human dignities, he said.

He recalled that in the past, under the government of Barack Obama, actions were taken that reduced its impact, the same with the position of Pope Francis, but afterwards it has hardened.

The truth is that it is not possible to accuse with elements, with evidence, of promoting terrorism.

On the contrary, Cuba has helped in the pacification of other countries, but it is accused of this for purely ideological, self-interested reasons, purely electoral politics or to obtain other concessions. We are going to try to persuade the United States to change this policy, he said.

On the other hand, in terms of immigration, more and more Americans are already speaking out against the practices protected by the Monroe Doctrine, but in electoral junctures other sectors radicalize their speeches in order to obtain more votes, they want to grab undocumented workers as piñatas.
