Marrero Cruz: "The Eurasian Economic Union will always be able to count on Cuba".

The member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, intervened this Friday in the final session of the III Eurasian Congress, where he ratified that the current national, regional and global challenges force us to seek our own solutions and viable projects in favor of cooperation, in decisive and strategic issues for economic and social development.

During this important event - held at the Sirius Science and Arts Park with the participation of Mikhail Mishustin, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation - the Cuban Head of Government pondered the need to collaborate in the scientific-technical field, finance, transport and logistics infrastructures, computerization and digital transformation, tourism, industry, humanitarian cooperation, among other topics of interest.

Precisely, the Congress was dedicated to the economic cooperation of Eurasian countries in the midst of international tensions, and was attended by government representatives, the business community, academia and the media.

In his remarks, Marrero Cruz highlighted the importance of the Congress in the current international situation, which imposes complex challenges for our countries, and alluded to the fact that "there is a great potential for the development of trade, investment and economic cooperation between the member states of the EAEU and Cuba".

In addition, he pointed out that the Greater of the Antilles, as an observer state of the Union, can play an important role in increasing economic ties between the countries of the EAEU and those of the Latin American and Caribbean region, based on its geographic location and the agreements in force between the parties.

"The existence of agreements of partial scope and economic complementation for the reduction of tariffs signed by Cuba with countries of our region, constitute an additional advantage to achieve the objectives indicated on the basis of bonuses for all parties," he meant.

Marrero Cruz recalled that, as part of the efforts to complement each other and project new integration spaces, Cuba presented an attractive project of mutual interest, in which progress could be made more quickly for the creation of an Industrial Park with the exclusive participation of the UEEA in the Mariel Special Development Zone.

He specified that the park could welcome investments from various sectors, among which the following have been identified as the highest priorities: the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, transportation, the iron and steel industry, renewable energies and food production.

"We also agree on fundamental lines of work such as the informatization of society, aimed at the digitalization of the economy and electronic commerce," said the Prime Minister, who added that this also responds to the need to promote strategic alliances with the companies of all the countries that make up the Union.

Likewise, he meant that each of these proposals were "in the interest of favoring the creation and transfer of knowledge for the joint development of alternative platforms in the face of sanctions, unilateral measures and economic, commercial and financial blockades unilaterally imposed by some States on our countries".

Marrero Cruz reiterated that it is a singular opportunity for Cuba to know and exchange experiences with the Union on such strategic and current issues as those aimed at the development and welfare of our peoples and nations.

Likewise, he said, "we ratify Cuba's invariable determination to collaborate in the implementation of the strategic guidelines for the development of the Eurasian economic integration until 2025 and to work in the fulfillment of the Joint Collaboration Plan 2021-2025, for the execution of the Memorandum of Understanding between Cuba and the Eurasian Economic Commission, which fully correspond to the Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030".

Towards the end of his speech, the Head of Government showed satisfaction for the results during these days, which represent a greater commitment as an observer State of the Union.

"You can always count on Cuba; we are a small but dignified, free, sovereign and independent country, which does not offer what it has to spare, but shares what it has", he concluded.
