May Day celebration of dignity and resistance

Havana, May 1st, 2024 - The streets of Havana were taken over, this Wednesday, from very early hours by those who arrived at the José Martí Anti-imperialist Tribune, a stage where nearly 200 thousand inhabitants of five municipalities of the capital and more than 1000 delegates from other countries, including South Africa, gathered to celebrate this May Day, International Workers' Day.

Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, member of the political bureau and secretary general of the Cuban Workers' Central, chaired the event, together with other authorities of the Party, the government, political and mass organisations.

The joy on the faces of women, men and children was tangible. For more than 150 years the reasons to defend the sovereignty of Cuba have been in the memory of the people.

Another International Workers' Day in Cuba announces the world the definitive independence and the joy of our victories, knowing how far there is still to go.
