Meeting with Cuban residents held at the Cuban Embassy in Qatar

A useful meeting with Cuban residents took place recently at the Cuban Embassy in a family atmosphere. The gathering was part of the regular exchanges with members of the Cuban community living in Qatar.

The activity was chaired by the Cuban Ambassador Oscar León González, and other members of the diplomatic representation also participated.

The Ambassador talked about the actions carried out by people in Cuba to overcome the intensified blockade imposed by the United States of America,  the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the economic difficulties worldwide. His Excellency also highlighted the celebration of the National Day of Rebellion on July 26. Several participants in the meeting raised issues of their interest and shared experiences of their lives in Qatar. In addition, they were updated on consular topics by the Third Secretary of the Embassy in charge of these matters.

Cuba and Qatar have friendly relations that have been consolidating since the official establishment of diplomatic links on December 13, 1989. Several milestones have marked the development of bilateral ties, such as the official visit to Doha of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, in 2001 and of ministers and other Cuban authorities.

On the other hand, His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, paid an official visit to Cuba in November 2015 and the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani made several trips to the largest of the Antilles, one of them in November 2016 to bid farewell to his friend Fidel during the funerals of the former Cuban president.

The friendship between the two countries is also expressed in other areas of human relations with cooperative actions, for example, in culture and sports.
