Meeting in Detroit Strengthens Ties Between Cuba and Its Emigration

Detroit, April 11, 2026 — As part of the visit to Detroit, Michigan, by the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Cuban Embassy in Washington, D.C., Tanieris Diéguez, a meeting was held with members of the Cuban community residing in the state.

During the exchange, topics of common interest were addressed and ways to strengthen relations between the nation and the Cuban diaspora were explored. In this context, emphasis was placed on the elements that unite Cubans both on the island and abroad, such as cultural values and national traditions.

Likewise, the importance of ensuring that nationals living abroad have opportunities to participate in the country’s economic and social life was underscored, so that they feel like an active part of the homeland and can contribute their ideas and efforts to the development of the national project.

As part of the agenda, a meeting with Charlene Ursey, a renowned visual artist and photographer of Cuban origin based in Detroit, stood out. During the exchange, they discussed her work and her connection to Cuban cultural identity.
