Roseau. March 21, 2019. Members of the solidarity movement with Cuba in Dominica held a meeting on the night of yesterday, March 20, 2019, with the Ambassador of Cuba in this country. The meeting took place at the offices of the Dominican Agency for Exports and Imports (DEXIA), where Gregoire Thomas, General Manager of the Agency, who was part of the first group of dominican students who studied in Cuba and graduated from Higher Institute of Agricultural Sciences of Havana.
Also present were Severin Mckenzie, Kimaner Julien, Kirshma Registe, Frankie Lowe, John Toussain, Erickson Dwight, Taletthia Laudath and Damien Dublin; all graduates in different careers in university centers located in the provinces of Havana, Villa Clara and Ciego de Ávila.
The main objective of the meeting was to discuss the activities that they intend to develop during this year 2019, in which the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the cuban scholarship plan for dominican students is commemorated. There are several activities that they intend to carry out, which they intend to make known to the local press once their coordination is concluded. The fundamental objective of all the activities is that graduates in Cuba themselves can make known what has been the contribution they have been able to give to Dominica for their development, based on the knowledge acquired and their employment relationship, as well as maintaining their link with our country, which have fond memories.
The Ambassador referred to the importance for any cuban official to carry out this type of meeting, which allows exchange experiences with those who during these 40 years have participated in the scholarship plan offered by Cuba and know the usefulness of the knowledge acquired in our country. In this regard, he stressed the importance of strengthening the associations created to maintain their ties with Cuba.
