Message from the Cuban Embassy in Ireland. February 16 2026.
Aware of the expressions of support for the Cuban people from Irish friends and sympathizers in these difficult times:
- We would like to express our deep gratitude for the efforts the Irish people are making in support of the Cuban people in this complex situation.
- We strongly condemn the latest escalation by the U.S. government against our country through the imposition of a total blockade on fuel supplies. The executive order issued by the U.S. president on January 29, 2026, declares a so-called national emergency, under which his government can impose trade tariffs on imports from countries that supply oil to Cuba.
- We condemn this executive order as a flagrant violation of International Law aimed at suffocating the Cuban people.
- We reiterate that Cuba poses no threat to the United States, its national interests, or the well-being of its citizens, who, moreover, have always been treated with respect and hospitality when their government has allowed them to visit the island.
- Likewise, we reaffirm Cuba's long-standing willingness to engage in serious and responsible dialogue with the United States government, based on international law, sovereign equality, mutual respect, reciprocal benefit, non-interference in internal affairs, and absolute respect for the independence and sovereignty of states, is widely documented.
- We are convinced that the attempt to overthrow Cuba is countered by the concept of resistance, which has prevailed, with the conviction of triumph for almost 67 years within the Cuban revolutionary forces.
- We know that Cuba is not alone. Many friends remember the services Cubans have rendered to the world. We call on the Irish, as well as many others around the world, to mobilize in support of Cubans in these difficult times and together achieve victory.
A fraternal greeting,
Embassy of Cuba to Ireland
