Pretoria, 27 May 2026. — During the debate in the National Assembly on the budget for the Foreign Ministry’s operations, speeches by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alvin Botes and MP Andisiwe Kumbaca reflected unconditional support for Cuba.
Alvin Botes condemned the imperialist escalation against Cuba, referring to “South Africa’s unequivocal solidarity regarding the unilateral, economic and coercive blockade being imposed on the people of Fidel Castro”.
For her part, Kumbaca, a member of the ANC parliamentary caucus and a member of the Assembly’s International Relations study group, referred to the internationalist and humanist spirit of the Cuban Revolution in Africa. He emphasised the example set by Cuba, “a nation that refuses to surrender its sovereignty”.
The people of Cuba are grateful for the continued solidarity with our cause, which is also that of all peoples fighting for justice, self-determination and independence.
