Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said today that four-time Olympic champion Mijaín López is already a legend and living history, on the occasion of his two victories in Greco-Roman wrestling at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
"Mijaín's fifth goes and the whole of Cuba is accompanying him," said the president in his account in X, platform from which he sent the athlete the embrace of the people.
Lopez advanced this Monday to the semifinals, in the division of more than 130 kilograms, beating Iran's Amin Mirzazadeh 3-1.
In the next round, the Cuban will face Azerbaijan's Sabah Shariati, leader of the world ranking in 2024.
Mijaín López is the only wrestler in history to hold four Olympic titles and, at the age of 41, he is in search of his fifth crown, something supernatural in this sport.
