The Minister of Health of Cyprus, Popi Nicolaidou Kanari received the Ambassador of Cuba, Angel Gustavo Suarez Cordero and in a friendly atmosphere, they exchanged on the possibilities for closer relations between the two countries in the area of health.
The Cuban Ambassador gave the Minister an overview of the main achievements of Cuban medicine in recent years. In particular, he referred to the 5 Cuban vaccines created as part of the Caribbean island's strategy to confront COVID-19. He also commented on the therapeutic vaccine against lung cancer, created by Cuban researchers and which today is part of a collaborative project between the Centre for Molecular Immunology of Cuba and the Roswell Park Research Centre in the USA and finally, he provided information about HEBERPROT-P, a Cuban medicine for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. In addition, the Cuban diplomat informed the Minister about the effects of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba in the area of health.
For her part, the Minister of Health expressed her gratitude for the information provided by the Ambassador, while confirming that the different proposals will be analysed and to assess which ones can be worked on jointly by the two countries (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
