Minister of Health of Dominica thanks for Cuba´s aid in the battle against COVID 19.

Roseau, April 26, 2020. The Minister of Health, Wellness and New Investment in Health of the Commonwealth of Dominica, the Honorable Dr. Irving McIntyre, thanked for the Cuba´s collaboration in the fight against the COVID pandemic - 19. The declaration was made by the Minister during the press conference that is held daily by this Ministry, to report on the development of the disease in the country, the measures taken and the results that are being achieved.

The Dominica´s Minister of health expressed: “Before I leave, I would like to thank our friendly Government of the Republic of Cuba for providing medical personnel in fighting COVID-19. This has made our job more manageable both at the COVID Isolation Facility and the District Surveillance level.” In this way, the Minister referred to the work carried out in Dominica by the cuban "Henry Reeve" brigade, specialized in attending to health problems associated with epidemics and natural disasters, and by permanent collaborators who were already working in the country.

The “Henry Reeve” brigade arrived in Dominica on last March 29. Its 35 members are located and working in the two hospitals that Dominica has for the care of cases with COVID - 19: The Dominica China friendship Hospital in the country 's capital and the Hospital of Portsmouth, the second largest city. They also have a presence in the isolation centers created for suspected cases and will participate in the community survey phase that will begin shortly.

They join the work carried out by the 52 members of the brigade of permanent collaborators and together they form a group of 87 health professionals among medical specialists, nurses and technologists who participate jointly with Dominica's health personnel, in the battle against the coronavirus.

The presence of Cuba´s collaborators is from the district level until direct care for patients who carry the disease. This has contributed to the detection of cases carrying the virus, to its observation process during quarantine, to the 13 cases recovered, and also to the fact that no one has died to date.
