The Moncada Anniversary was Commemorated in South Africa

Pretoria, 23 July 2026 — The Cuban Embassy in South Africa organised a moving commemorative ceremony to mark the 73rd anniversary of the assault on the Moncada Barracks and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes. The gathering took place at the Javett Theatre at the University of Pretoria. The event brought together Cubans living in Pretoria, Cubans working in South Africa and friends in solidarity with the Cuban cause, for a day of commitment to Cuba and revolutionary reaffirmation.

During the gathering, the historical significance of the Moncada as a symbol of resistance, dignity and the continuity of the Cuban people’s struggle was highlighted. Those present reaffirmed their pledge to resist and triumph alongside the Motherland, amidst the challenges imposed by imperialism.

The Cuban Embassy extends its special thanks to the University of Pretoria and the Javett Theatre for providing the venue for this important event, which allowed us to pay tribute to the historical memory of the Cuban nation.
