The National Council of the Pan-Cypriot Labor Federation of Cyprus (PEO) ratifies its unconditional support for Cuba.

Nicosia, Cyprus, March 26, 2026. - Representatives of the Cypriot working class affiliated with the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) ratified this Thursday at their National Council their unconditional support and solidarity with Cuba.

The session welcomed as a special guest the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, who received from the General Secretary of the Pan-Cypriot Labor Federation (PEO), Sotiroulla Charalambous, the sentiment and solidarity attachment of the thousands of workers affiliated with this labor confederation on the island in the Eastern Mediterranean.

As Sotiroulla Charalambous expressed, "Solidarity with Cuba is part of the struggle we maintain for our principles and values of dignity that today prevail in Cuba and in our working class," she specified. "We do not do it out of habit or mandate, but because the siege of North American imperialism becomes increasingly inhumane and aggressive against the Cuban nation, and, under the current conditions in which its people live, we feel that we have to support its workers, because their struggle means something more important for Cypriot workers, who understand the right of the Cuban people to defend their future, their self-determination, and the ability to live in peace."

During his exchange with the represe ntatives of workers from across the island gathered there, the Cuban diplomat updated the audience with arguments that illustrate how life is today in his nation, what each minute of shortages and deprivations represents in the most diverse sectors of our society, as a consequence of that sixty-year-old U.S. blockade policy that every day “worsens and strangles” the daily life of millions of citizens on the island.

Pino Martinez also shared the reasons and essences that today weigh on the resilience and will of millions of Cubans to “safeguard the integrity of the socialist nation project that we want, build, and are willing to defend, no matter how di

fficult the current circumstances our country is going through.”

At the same time, she thanked the delegates of the National Council of PEO for the announced solidarity campaign that the Pan-Cypriot Workers' Federation will begin in the first fortnight of April as support and accompaniment in the moral, supportive, and human order towards Cuba and its heroic working people.

This was confirmed by its General Secretary, Sotiroulla Charalambous, who added: "It will also be an expression of the material aid coming from the Cypriot working class, which once again—as it has in the past—will provide medicines, food, essential supplies, and whatever may be useful for Cuba at this time, as a result of our affection, solidarity, and internationalist support for Cuba and the Cubans."
