Pretoria, 30 July 2026. — The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in South Africa expresses its deepest gratitude and satisfaction at the visit by the leadership of the National Union of Public and Service Employees (NEHAWU), a sister organization which, over many years, has played a leading role in relations of solidarity with Cuba.
The delegation was led by the President of NEHAWU, Nyameka Macanda, who was elected in June 2026 during the union’s 13th National Congress. During the meeting, experiences were exchanged on social justice and international cooperation between trade union organizations.
The Embassy emphasized the importance of maintaining and expanding ties of solidarity, particularly in the face of economic and political challenges. Both parties agreed to explore new avenues for cooperation.
President Macala proudly announced that she will take part in the First International Colloquium on the Commander-in-Chief, to be held in Havana.
The Cuban Embassy reiterates its appreciation for NEHAWU’s ongoing commitment to the cause of international solidarity and reaffirms its willingness to strengthen relations with all sectors that promote social justice, sovereignty and cooperation between our peoples.
