Neil Findlay, has become the second member of the Scottish Parliament to formally nominate Cuba’s Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.
In his nomination submission to the Norwegian Nobel Committee Neil explained that
‘The key principles of the Henry Reeve brigade are health, peace, humanitarianism and solidarity, and since its formation in 2005, Cuban health workers have provided relief in emergencies regardless of politics or borders, treating almost four million people in 45 countries.
He also noted recent examples including:
‘the 2005 Pakistan earthquake where more than 2,000 Cuban health workers treated 1.7 million patients over eight months, and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, when Cubans also gave medical assistance to more than 400,000 people’
Neil Findlay said
‘The work of Cuba’s Henry Reeve International Brigade is based on the spirit of solidarity, internationalism and humanitarianism and I think they would be very worthy recipients of the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize’.
