DAMASCUS, November 12, 2018 - The President of the Syrian Arab Republic, His Excellency Mr. Bashar Al Assad, received on the morning of Monday, November 12, in a solemn ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Damascus, the Letters of Credence of the new Ambassador Miguel Porto Parga, which accredit him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba in the Syrian Arab Republic.
During the meeting, President Bashar Al Assad and the Cuban Ambassador exchanged views on the excellent and historic diplomatic and political relations between the two countries, as well as the importance of strengthening them in the economic and commercial fields.
The Cuban Ambassador expressed his willingness to work for the strengthening of bilateral relations in all its areas and reiterated the support of the Cuban government to the brother Syrian people that has given a demonstration of resistance to defeat a terrorist war supported by foreign interests.
For his part, President Al Assad thanked Cuba for its constant support to Syria and expressed his admiration for the example of resistance that the Cuban nation represents. He addressed the potentialities that exist in the area of economic and commercial cooperation between both countries, taking into account that both countries have to face unjust and criminal economic and financial blockades imposed by foreign powers.
Also participating in the meeting were the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid Al Moallem and the Minister of Presidency Affairs Mansour Azzam, on the Syrian side; and members of the diplomatic staff of the Cuban Embassy in Damascus.
