The new Minister of Health of Cyprus, Mr. Michael Damianos received on the morning of May 14, the Ambassador of Cuba, Angel Gustavo Suarez Cordero and in a friendly atmosphere, they exchanged on the possibilities to strengthen relations between the two countries in the area of health.
The Cuban Ambassador gave the Minister detailed information on the negative impact of the blockade imposed by the US government on the Cuban health system. And also, how in spite of it, in the last years positive results have been obtained in the Biotechnological Industry of the Caribbean island. The Cuban diplomat referred in particular to the therapeutic vaccine against lung cancer, created by Cuban researchers and which today is part of a collaborative project between the Center for Molecular Immunology of Cuba and the Roswell Park Research Center in the USA and finally, he provided information about HEBERPROT-P, a Cuban drug for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcer. In addition, the Ambassador commented on the events in the area of health in Cuba, the Cuban medical collaboration in the world and the possibilities of Cuban medical services.
For his part, the Minister of Health thanked the Ambassador for the information provided, while confirming that the different proposals will be analysed and to assess in which they can work together between the two countries based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed last January 2023 and which expands the possibilities for bilateral cooperation (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
