New Edition of the Cuban Film Festival Celebrated in Minnesota

The Cuban Film Festival of Minnesota held its seventeenth edition in Minneapolis, establishing itself as a key space for cultural exchange between Cuba and the United States. Since its inception, the event has played a fundamental role in building bridges between the two peoples through cinema and the arts.

Organized with the support of various cultural institutions, the festival not only showcases film productions but also brings U.S. audiences closer to the realities, traditions, and challenges of Cuban society. Its impact is reflected in the growing interest of attendees, many of whom have developed a deeper connection with the island and even a desire to visit it.

The program included works by emerging directors, offering fresh and authentic perspectives on Cuba, strengthening the role of cinema as a tool for dialogue and understanding. The closing ceremony was attended by Cuba’s Chargé d’Affaires to the United States, Ambassador Lianys Torres, who highlighted the solidarity present in the region.

The event concluded with the screening of the documentary The Mystery of Cuban Music: La Clave, by Kurt Hartel, while the participation of singer Gloria “La Niña” Rivera added a musical component that enriched the festival’s cultural experience.

Since 2010, this festival has become an essential platform for the promotion of Cuban cinema in the U.S. Midwest and a living bridge for cultural exchange, thanks to the sustained support of its audience, collaborators, and volunteers.
