New graduates from Cuban universities return to St. Kitts and Nevis.
Basseterre, October 14, 2024: After a long period of learning, sacrifice and dedication, seven young people returned to St Kitts and Nevis who, after having completed their university studies in Cuba, today come back with the satisfaction of a dream achieved and new challenges to reach.
As every year, this weekend the ceremony for the graduation of new professionals took place, organized in St. Kitts by the Cuban Alumni Association, so that family and friends of these young people can be part of such a significant occasion. The event was chaired by the Governor General of the Federation, Dame Marcella Liburd and by the Foreign Minister, Right Honorable Dr. Denzil Douglas.
Given the responsibility and commitment that this beginning stage imposes, for the 6 new Doctors and the Stomatologist who have just graduated, each of the speakers who participated urged them to serve their country with fervor and devotion. Likewise, they dedicated a space to thank Cuba for its great contribution to the social development of many countries that, like St. Kitts and Nevis, have benefited for more than two decades through cooperation in Education and Health.
Likewise, Foreign Minister Douglas and the Ambassador of this Federation residing in Havana, H.E. Verna Mills, strongly condemned the US blockade to which Cuba has been subjected for more than sixty years. They insisted on the importance of their complaint in all possible forums and conveyed a message of solidarity and unwavering support to the Cuban people.
Ambassador David Rivero evoked Fidel Castro and his dream of unity and equity for our nations. He ratified the commitment of the Cuban government to continue with the humanist vocation developed throughout 65 years of Revolution, by virtue of the interests and needs of brother peoples.
The occasion was also conducive to celebrating the 20 years of the creation of the Cuban Alumni Association, currently heading for Hollis Prentice, a graduate of Economics at the University of Cienfuegos.
Also present at the event were family and friends of the graduates, members of the Saint Kitts and Nevis-Cuba friendship associations and Cuban residents.
