In an act of profound patriotic and revolutionary significance, the new heads of Cuba’s diplomatic and consular missions abroad took their oath yesterday, July 3, during a solemn ceremony led by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
The central moment of the event was the signing of the oath before the President, followed by the resolute words of diplomat Eugenio Martínez Enríquez, who spoke on behalf of all new ambassadors and consuls general. "We swear loyalty to the Homeland, the Party, the State, and our people," Martínez Enríquez firmly affirmed, reiterating the principles that will guide their work.
The diplomat underscored the continuity of Cuba’s diplomatic tradition, characterized by its bravery and integrity: "one that 'does not fear speaking the truth, nor denouncing injustice, and that accepts no pressure of any kind'." He highlighted the commitment and honor of representing Cuba worldwide, emphasizing a fundamental principle: "We will explain at every moment that there is no independent and sovereign Cuba without Revolution and Socialism; that there is no Homeland without unity."
With pride and determination, Martínez Enríquez declared: "We will walk the world with our heads held high," attributing this strength to the very essence of the nation: "because #Cuba is resistance; because the Cuban people are noble and do not surrender." In a clear reference to the current situation, he denounced that the Cuban people "do not deserve the aggression they suffer due to the anti-Cuban obsession emanating from the United States."
Following the signing of the oath, the ceremony featured a moment of special significance when President Díaz-Canel awarded one Order and four medals to diplomatic colleagues with distinguished careers and outstanding service both domestically and abroad. This gesture highlighted the value the Revolution places on dedication and merit in diplomatic service.
In her keynote address, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Josefina Vidal emphasized the magnitude of the responsibility assumed by the new heads of mission. By taking the oath, Vidal stated, they "are undertaking the great responsibility and supreme commitment to represent the Revolution and our valiant and heroic people."
The Deputy Minister reaffirmed the essential duties of Cuban revolutionary diplomacy:
- Defend sovereignty and peace in every arena.
- Raise the banners of anti-imperialism and internationalism.
- Promote solidarity and cooperation.
- Tirelessly fight for a just, democratic, and equitable international order.
The ceremony reaffirmed Cuba’s unwavering commitment to its revolutionary and socialist principles on the international stage. The new heads of mission depart for their destinations entrusted to represent with dignity, steadfastness, and loyalty the Homeland, its Revolution, and a people who resist adversity and injustice with nobility. Their work will be, as affirmed, the voice of a resilient and sovereign Cuba in the world.
