New Minister of Health in Nevis meets with Cuban Ambassador

Basseterre, April 14, 2023- The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, David Rivero Pérez, was received this Thursday by Jahnel Nisbett, recently appointed as Senator with Ministerial responsibilities in Health, Gender Affairs and Social Services in the Nevis Island Administration.

The Permanent Secretary of Health in this territory, Shelisa Martin-Clarke, who has been in this function for several years, was in charge of the formal presentations and the words of gratitude to Cuba for the historic assistance and collaboration, as well as for the training of local professionals in Cuban universities. Nevis currently has more than a ten doctors trained in Cuba, while another group is pursuing postgraduate studies on the island.

After an extensive update offered by the Ambassador on the main issues that concern both nations, Minister Nisbett was interested in the possibility of increasing the scholarships of medical specialties granted by the Cuban Government, particularly for this territory. In addition she took the opportunity to meet with each of the Cubans who work at the Alexandra hospital, in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.

Also participating in the meeting were Florelle Hobson, head of the hospital's medical staff and Gary Pemberton, administrator of the aforementioned institution.
