Tehran, Feb 25, IRNA - Advisor for the Majlis (parliament) speaker for international affairs Hossein Amir-Abdolahian slammed US interventionist measures in Venezuela, saying the country is after establishing riot in this country.
Addressing a meeting with Cuba ambassador to Tehran Alexis Bandrich Vega, Amir-Abdolahian referred to US unilateral sanctions and policies, saying Trump administration has violated the international regulations by breaching agreements.
He also referred to escalation of US hostile acts against some countries especially Venezuela, saying US is seeking to topple Venezuela legal government.
He supported holding talks with the aim of finding solutions to existing problems between Venezuelan government and the opposition and reiterated that Iran has always backed the independence and sovereignty of other countries.
He went on to say that the Iran parliament welcomed any cooperation in line with promoting parliamentary and political ties.
Meanwhile, Bandrich Vega referred to Iran's Islamic Revolution as an important pattern for world freedom seekers and welcomed the achievement made by Iran.
Condemning US interventionist measures in Venezuela, he stressed Cuba's support for the legal Venezuelan government.
He also appreciated Iran's efforts to support policies against US hegemonic policies.
Earlier, Iran's chargé d’affaires to the United Nations Eshagh Al-Habib in a statement said the US coup against Venezuela is aimed at dominating the country's oil.
'While they direct their goals at a civil coup and aim to overthrow a constitutional and democratically-elected Government, their ultimate objective, as they openly admitted, is to dominate Venezuela’s oil,' he added.
In the meantime, earlier the Foreign Minister of Venezuela Jorge Arreaza told IRNA that the US has always interfered with Latin American affairs, but this time they are in the forefront of the coup in Caracas.
'We admire and respect what the Islamic Revolution has provided to the Iranian people: the independence and the dignity,' Arreaza noted.
Venezuela has been experiencing some unrest lately.
The story began when President of the National Assembly of Venezuela Juan Gerardo Guaidó Márquez called himself the president of the interim government. The US recognized him as the president, and said that it no longer recognizes Maduro.
Following the US, some other countries, including Germany, the UK, Argentina, Brazil, and Columbia did the same thing and recognized Guaidó.
However, Iran, Russia, China, Bolivia, Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Turkey have supported the legal president of Venezuela. http://www.irna.ir/en/News/83222479
