Parliamentarians from Ireland offer important support to the international campaign for the award of the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize to the Henry Reeve Medical Brigades.

(38 deputies, 5 senators and 3 MEPs)

Dublin, December 7, 2020. The Cuban Revolution has in Ireland an important solidarity movement that includes a diversity of organizations and horizons of political thought.

The international campaign to end the criminal economic blockade imposed by the United States government against the Cuban people, intensified by the Trump administration, which has applied more than 200 new sanctions and caused damages of more than 5.5 billion dollars in the course of a year affecting the most varied sectors, has historically been an essential priority for this movement of solidarity.

Since the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic and particularly when contingents of Cuban doctors who are members of the Henry Reeve Brigade began to assist other nations, another international campaign focused on promoting the nomination of the Henry Reeve Medical Brigades for the 2021Nobel Peace Prize took shape as a fair recognition of the performance of this group in its 15 years of existence.

Irish solidarity was present in that campaign and numerous statements of support for that nomination began to occur, which we have been publishing on our website and social media accounts.

As a result of this mobilization effort, 38 deputies, five senators and three MEPs from Ireland have officially nominated the Cuban doctors who are members of Henry Reeve for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.

Total: 46 nominations from Irish parliamentarians and more will come, as several friends await confirmation from the Nobel jury of their proposals.

The nominations of Irish MPs were joined by two academics dedicated to the social sciences.

48 Irish nominations.

Our deep gratitude to the Irish solidarity movement and especially to all those who have offered their signatures supporting the nomination of Cuban doctors. A special recognition to the Sinn Fein Party whose parliamentarians fully supported the nomination.
