Patria International Colloquium: Strengthen the voice of the peoples in the face of the cultural battle

Havana, March 13, 2023.- The second edition of the Patria International Colloquium begins this Monday in the Che Guevara Hall of the Casa de las Américas, with the participation of dozens of international guests and more than 100 Cuban specialists in communication technology, political communication and political art.

The event organized by the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) will focus on denouncing the effects of the US blockade against Cuba in the digital space, at the same time that it intends to strengthen the capacities and voice of the peoples against the culture battle

According to the colloquium program, disinformation and hate speech will be discussed on March 13 and 14. The draft Declaration of the Second International Patria Colloquium will be discussed and presented for approval.

María Fernanda Ruiz, director of digital communication for the Ministry of Culture in Argentina, recently said that the event can be defined as a kind of "arm wrestling against the blockade", a meeting that should be experienced as a celebration of fraternal love and that will position, in the center of the debates, the analysis of "the processes related to the dispute of meanings and the art of politics".

She added that the colloquium will have a notable aesthetic presence because, according to her criteria, it is essential to understand "the sensitive and artistic dimension of our politics."

The closing political-cultural act will take place on the 14th at the Stairs of the University of Havana, at 8:30 pm. Among the invited artists for the closing night will be, in addition to Buena Fe, the Nsila Cheche group, DJ Reitt and Chanara, Nelson Valdés, the Iris Duo and Rodrigo Sosa.

According to its artistic director Osmar León, the purpose is to achieve a different show, something that will be possible through video mapping, a technique of using video projectors to display animations or images on real surfaces and achieve an unusual artistic effect. common.

It will be, he said, "a staging with completely renewed codes."

This weekend the international guests at the colloquium also participated in the Public Press, People's Press Festival, which took place in the Husillo neighborhood of the capital, in Marianao, a community in transformation where the country's leadership has made significant investments.

The first edition of the colloquium was also held last year at the Casa de las Américas, and concluded with the adoption of a declaration that expresses solidarity and international commitment to Cuba, which is facing a policy of economic asphyxiation and media siege led by the US government.

On that occasion, homage was paid to the 130th anniversary of the founding of José Martí's Patria newspaper and there was a debate on how to confront the global manipulative media machine, which is so merciless against Cuba.
