Permanent Brigade of Cuban Health Collaborators in Dominica carries out an analysis of its work in 2020.

Roseau, February 15, 2021. The Permanent Brigade of Cuban Health Collaborators in Dominica held a meeting this weekend to analyze the results of its work in 2020. The meeting took place in the house where the Brigade leadership resides. The Ambassador of Cuba, Ulises Arranz Fernández, Consul Miriam Martín Posada and collaborators attended.

Dr. Isolina López Cardoso, Head of the Brigade, provided a comprehensive and detailed report on the results of the work in 2020, as well as the achievements and the challenges they face for the future. She reported that 27,939 medical consultations were carried out during the year; 84 lives were saved; 145 patients were treated in ICU; 63,506 diagnostic studies were performed, of them 4,435 were performed by pathological anatomy; as well as 569 surgical interventions, 341 of them major. In addition, 676 procedures of anesthesia were performed and 39,248 nursing actions; 315 medical equipment were repaired. That year, non – medical consultations by dentist began and were performed 1 538.

Based on the information provided, there was a debate in which doctors Ricardo Fleitas Anaya, Rene Guilbert Veranes and Sandra Winogray made important reflections. An emotional moment was when the Chief of the Brigade recognized the collaborators who have participated directly in the battle against COVID 19. These are: Yerandi Valle Gutiérrez, Onan Pérez Zapata, Lenia María Moreno Aguado, Isolina López Cardoso, Arlen Durago Ortega, Nivia Castellanos Pérez, Yulenni Napoles Dela, Jorge A. Leyva García, Yoankis Álvarez Marrero and Oneida Sánchez Sánchez

At the end, the Ambassador congratulated everyone for the results of the work achieved in 2020, especially those who have been on the front line of combat against COVID-19. He recalled that the permanent brigade, together with professionals from the health of Dominica, were the ones who started the attention to the first cases of the pandemic until the Henry Reeve Brigade was incorporated, and after their return, they have continued to treat them. He said that the main achievement of the Permanent Brigade had been to maintain in such difficult times, unity, cohesion and the willingness of all to fulfill any task assigned to you and have received the recognition from the Dominica people for the work you do.
