Your Excellency, President Seretse Khama Ian Khama,
Thanks very much for this opportunity to present the letters of credence.
I am really honored to return to Botswana, now as ambassador, to represent the government and people of Cuba.
On behalf of President Raul Castro, I would like to express our sincere votes for the peace and prosperity of Botswana people, and for your personal health.
Also our gratitude for the tribute you paid to late Cuban historic leader Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro, summarized in four moments:
- Your personal written message.
- Your visit to our embassy to sign the book of condolences, together with members of the cabinet.
- Your statements to media.
- Your mention at the state of the nation address, in parliament.
Cuba and Botswana have built excellent bilateral relations, whose 40th anniversary we will be celebrating next year.
I convey my personal commitment to continue working in close coordination with your government for further strengthen, deepen and expand those bonds, in benefit of both countries.
Especially in health, our medical brigade has been in Botswana for more than 30 years. We have now 95 health professionals working in 9 districts of your country.
Other areas of cooperation have being: sports, education and construction.
In the multilateral arena, Cuba and Botswana have enjoyed mutual support on international issues.
Particularly in terms of the US blockade, we highly appreciate your support every year at the United Nations.
Finally, my government would appreciate that you kindly consider the possibility to visit Cuba again this coming year, as a sample of the excellent level of our bilateral relations.
