The President and other ICAP officials meet with members of the solidarity movement in Australia.

Canberra, 12 May 2026. The president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González, along with other officials from the institution, held a videoconference with representatives of the Solidarity movement with Cuba in Australia.

Also participating were the Cuban Ambassador to Australia, Gilma Moreira Lino, and members of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission.

During the online meeting, a detailed update was provided on the economic, social, and political situation in Cuba, with an emphasis on the challenges the country faces because of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade,exacerbated by the U.S. president’s executive orders and the increase in coercive measures. ICAP officials highlighted the efforts of the Cuban people and government to maintain social achievements and move toward sustainable development.

Participants in the solidarity movement in Australia expressed their ongoing commitment to the Cuban cause and their condemnation of the U.S. embargo against Cuba. They also shared the activities they have been carrying out to denounce the embargo and promote friendship between the two peoples.

The ICAP leaders expressed their deep gratitude for the sustained solidarity shown by their Australian friends through various initiatives, campaigns, and gestures of support, which strengthen the ties of friendship and collaboration between Cuba and Australia.

This online exchange reaffirms the mutual commitment to continue working together for Cuba’s sovereignty and for a more just and united world.
