Dublin, Ireland, November 22, 2023. The President of the Parliamentary Friendship Group of Cuba with Ireland, Fernando González Llord, sent a fraternal greeting to the Irish parliamentarians, addressed in particular to the Coordinator of the Parliamentary Friendship Group of Ireland with Cuba, Deputy Thomas Pringle and the members who make up the latter.
In his message, the Hero of the Republic of Cuba thanked the solidarity maintained by Ireland with his country against the blockade and the inclusion in the List of Countries Sponsoring Terrorism, of the North American Department of State. Likewise, he highlighted the potential for cooperation between both countries, in areas such as culture, health, education, environmental protection and the empowerment of women, calling to further strengthen the ties between both parliaments.
For his part, the Cuban ambassador to Ireland, Bernardo Guanche Hernandez, bearer of the message from the also President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), explained the composition of the members of the aforementioned Group on the Cuban side, explaining that the new Parliament, the result of the elections held last March, is made up of 470 deputies. Among other data of interest, he noted that, of them, 55.74 percent are female, 45.11 are black and mulatto and the average age is 46 years.
Likewise, he highlighted the existence of 109 Parliamentary Friendship Groups with Cuba around the world, including Ireland, which demonstrates the international support and solidarity with his country.
He also addressed the damage caused by the blockade and the inclusion of Cuba in the aforementioned List. Finally, he thanked Ireland for its vote in favour of the resolution approved by the overwhelming majority of United Nations member countries last November 2.
