Nicosia, November 23, 2022. On the morning of November 23, 2022, the President of the Cyprus Union of Journalists, Giorgos Frangos received at the Union's headquarters, the Cuban Ambassador to Cyprus, Angel Gustavo Suarez Cordero.
During the friendly meeting, Mr. Frangos commented on the history of the Cyprus Union of Journalists, founded in 1960. The Union has a committee of nine members: president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and councilors. The Cyprus Union of Journalists has about 560 members. It covers virtually all the country's professional journalists employed in the island's newspapers, periodicals, radio and television and news agencies. They also discussed the challenges ahead for the guild. He made a general assessment of the work of the Union and commented on its vision and mission.
For his part, the Caribbean island diplomat appreciated the meeting. He took advantage of the occasion to update on the situation in Cuba and particularly the economic and social effects caused by the intensification of the unjust, inhumane and genocidal US blockade against the largest of the Antilles for more than 60 years, despite the fact that the international community, in the United Nations General Assembly for the 30th time, demanded the end of that policy by an overwhelming majority.
At the end of the meeting, they exchanged on the future possibilities of cooperation between the Cyprus Union of Journalists and the Embassy of Cuba (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
