President of Estonia in solidarity with those affected in Cuba by Hurricane Ian
Helsinki, November 4, 2022.- The President of Estonia, Alar Karis, received the Cuban Ambassador, Beatriz Parra, who presented him with the credential as concurrent representative to this Baltic country, and expressed his solidarity with the families affected in the Island by Hurricane Ian. After the formal act, Karis welcomed the Head of Mission with permanent headquarters in Helsinki, Finland, in a formal meeting in which she was interested in the progress of the recovery of the damage caused by the powerful Hurricane Ian, the diplomat said in communication with Prensa Latina.
The Estonian president conveyed a message of solidarity to the families affected by the cyclone and of support for the Cuban people in the face of such difficult circumstances, and expressed his wish for a speedy recovery, added Parra, who explained the efforts made by the Cuban government so that the victims return to normalcy. He also told him how Cuba was able to bring the Covid-19 pandemic under control, especially thanks to an effective epidemiological program, the development of its own vaccines and the massive vaccination campaign that exceeds 90% of the population. The president pondered such results, the ambassador noted.
The parties discussed bilateral ties and agreed to continue promoting relations, as well as to find topics to promote commercial and economic exchange. In the conversation with the president, Parra highlighted the relevance of being able to deliver the credential as concurrent ambassador to Estonia on the day the UN General Assembly began the debate on the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba.
After noting that the UN is analyzing for the thirtieth consecutive year the resolution that demands the end of this hostile po licy, Parra thanked the Estonian government as a member state of the European Union for supporting the Cuban demand.
Previously, the Cuban diplomat was also received at the Foreign Ministry by the director of the Transatlantic Relations Division, Andre Lipand; the director of Protocol and Diplomatic Immunity, Urmas Eigla, and the director of the Division of International Organizations and Human Rights, Aino Lepic Von Wiren.
“It was a productive visit that marks the way forward in the identification of common interests in bilateral ties to increase cooperation, commercial exchange among other issues of relations, Ambassador Parra concluded.
