Nicosia, Cyprus – The President of the House of Representatives, H.E. Mrs. Annita Demetriou, received the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, H.E. Mr. Ángel Gustavo Suárez Cordero, on November 4th, in a farewell courtesy visit as he concludes his diplomatic mission on the island.
The ambassador received a warm welcome, and both reviewed matters of mutual interest on the bilateral and international agenda.
The Cuban diplomat expressed his appreciation for the friendship and support he received during his three and a half years in Cyprus and thanked all those who made his stay a pleasant and memorable one. He also reiterated Cuba's gratitude for Cyprus's continued solidarity and support. He mentions particularly the excellent cooperation he maintained with the House of Representatives and the appreciation for the vote of Cyprus in favor of the Cuban resolution against the blockade in the General Assembly of the United Nations.
President Demetriou reaffirmed that Cyprus will always support Cuba and highlighted the strong bonds of friendship between the two nations. She congratulated the Ambassador for his successful tenure, noting that he should be very proud of what he has achieved during his mission in Cyprus, and wished him and his family all the best in their future endeavors.
On this occasion, the Ambassador presented to the President a book published for the exhibition jointly organized by the Press and Information Office and the Embassy of Cuba in Cyprus, inaugurated on October 17, 2025, at the Casteliotissa Hall in Nicosia. The President showed great interest and appreciation for the publication.
The meeting concluded in a cordial atmosphere, reaffirming the excellent relations and mutual respect that continue to strengthen the ties between Cyprus and Cuba (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
