President of Latvia receives Credentials from the new Ambassador of Cuba

Helsinki, June 20th, 2018. The President of the Republic of Latvia, His Excellency Mr. Raimonds Vējonis, received on June 19th, in a solemn audience held at the Riga Castle, official Residence of the President, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, H.E. Mr. Eduardo Lazo Pérez, who presented the Credentials that accredits him in those functions.

During the meeting, both interlocutors highlighted the political will to promote the further develop of bilateral relations and cooperation in various sectors, and to take advantage of existing mechanisms to strengthen the political dialogue both bilaterally and multilaterally. The favorable framework provided by the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement signed between the European Union (EU) and Cuba was also highlighted. Latvia was among the first Member States of the EU to ratify this agreement.

The Cuban diplomat, concurrent from Helsinki, used the opportunity to thank Latvia's position against the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.

During the meeting, both parties highlighted the growing interest that Cuba awakens as a tourist destination among Latvian citizens (Report: Embassy of Cuba in Finland).
